Finally they (RTO) picked my dear Activa!! For parking her in P1 zone on 20th April.
And I’m glad it happened. I was frustrated for first five minutes as it happened for first time. But optimism you see. I had a chance to see personally how this works. Its fun only till it’s happening with others.
Well, here is a tip (especially for girls) - If the pickers gang try to scare you of knotty, complicated process to get your beloved vehicle back and say that the process will sweep u of a good amount, don’t give a damn.
As I caught them catching my vehicle, they chased me instead of me doing that. I was left with two pay options Rs.100 or Rs.150, later with a receipt. After some bargain, just to check, I picked Rs. 100 option. The picker hopped back happily to his gang.
Later I said I will pay 150. As I said this, in a matter of second they all fled and advised me to get my vehicle from the centre!! J
It’s true that - 100 Divided by a Gang - is just too negligible amount to name it as corruption but at least that amount won’t end up sponsoring anything outlaw that it shouldn’t.
At the centre, after some consultation, I decided to pay off with a receipt whatever may be the amount as I didn’t had vehicle papers with me (one guy there said it would cost me around 500 bucks and offered to settle it at 250, again receipt less). I had to disappoint him too.
Final outcome was, I didn’t pay 500 or 250 but 150 with a reciept. To my surprise, I was not even asked for license, papers are far away.
You must have gone through all this, and may have had different experiences…mine was bit trouble less but full of future guidelines.

I think there's no point in blaming those policemen and their colleagues. Firstly, we do not follow rules and we don't even think twice before greasing their palms. We(Indian youth) need to learn some ethics. Sad situation :(
I had done the same things 3-4 times by giving them money instead of taking the receipt but last time they took my vehicle and took to their head office,,it was hilarious to say the least,,,,,,they were calling me as Mujrim so and so has done that all in pure hindi and i was laughing in front of them,,,anways i had to pay 150 bucks but i was glad that i went through the process....
I didn't pay money here but paid fine (with receipt).
And I want to say that those guys would provoke you to pay some money and finish up the matter. But don't get scared of process, it's short, easy and most important - LEGAL.
Apeksha,I'm talkin in general re..according to my search, there're 12 cases a month(in Pune) where people beat traffic police for catching them with a valid reason. Or many ppl just try and slip a note of Rs.100/- into their pocket.
Im glad u didnt do that :]
And I'd read that u got the ticket (for paying fine).
I thought the post is giving some different picture!
One can imagine, total annual revenue going under tables just in this small break of law.
People feel proud when they elope from such situation by taking law in their pockets.
It looks small, but it’s Grim.
this kind of thinking comes only when one gets mature,,,when someone is in his/her teens it seems fun avoiding traffic police or breaking laws....bcoz than one has to shell it out from ones own pocket money,,,,but once u start ur professional life,,,i think one should follow rules....
its a system, same as water, and we are like fish...if we leave the water, we ll die for sure! kkudos to our 'healthy' corrupt system!
